Radeon HD 6970M or Radeon HD 5870

Comparing just the specs, Radeon HD 587o would be a better choice, plus you have to consider; one is designed for laptops while the other for desktops. I think laptops generally contain lower powered graphics cards due to heat issues, battery life etc.

5870 beats 6970M in hardware specification exept in one parameter - version of OpenGL. 6970M supports 4.2, 5870 supports 3.2. If you have idea how Viewport 2.0 performance influence of OpenGL version - please let me know it! :) :)
