Radeon x700 256mb AGP on Gigabyte ga-7va Motherboard?

Hey,

I am thinking of purchasing a Radeon x700 256mb AGP for my PC, and was wondering if it would be compatible with my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-7VA KT400), or should I stick to getting an older graphic card?

I was also planning to upgrade my PSU (currently a Generic ATX 300W) to an ANTEC ATX 400W to support this new graphic card (300W is recommened by ATI for the card, but I want to be safe).

Since the KT400 supports AGP 4x/8x, there should be no problems with that card. The power supply upgrade was a wise move, considering that generic units tend to be the bottom of the heap stuff.

Good to hear. I've gone and ordered the card, so I should have it within the next 2-3 days. Can't wait to catch up on the games I've neglected the past year :)

Didn't have the cash for it, sells for an extra $100 AUD here :(

Anyway, my card arrived this morning (was suprised how quickly they delivered it), and I found a place that sells the power supply for a good price so I'm going to go get it, and then gaming time :)

Just something else I'm curious about, should I upgrade the VIA Chipset drivers for my motherboard or see how I go without the latest ones first?
 
Wouldn't hurt.

What PSU are you looking at? The reason I ask is because not all power supplies are equal, and you could end up with one that's really no better than what you currently have.
 
Antec SP 2.0s are great i have the 500 watt one powering my system, have not had any power problems yet, great choice darky
 
Sorry to break your bubble but, AGP ain't worth it. I feel that you should have saved that moeny up for a total upgrade to PCI-e. Certain brands of the x700 have PCI_e versions which are cheaper than AGP ones. :rolleyes:
