recording system

this is a thread i started in ultimate-guitar.com but not many people seem to help me out finding a recording system so i posted here since you guys know a little more about hardware and software

basically i want to buy a recording system but the problems are choosing one that doesnt give me latency so there's 3 interfaces to choose from usb, firewire and pci by buying a new sound card

usb i doubt it is too slow i believe
firewire im not sure how fast is it and if i choose firewire i need to buy firewire pci card or something like that
and if pci then waht soundcard should i get?

basically just read the post:P

any help is appreciated

what i want to do is record and compose stuff on my own for example i have a friend that plays bass but he doesnt live near me anymore he lives on georgia now and i would like if he could send me bass tracks so i could compose over that or if he is not able to record the bass track for me i have a digitech whammy pedal which makes the guitar sound an octave lower so it makes it sound like a bass for example the "seven nation army song intro"

so i could record 3 instruments bass, rhytmn guitar, lead guitar and for drums i would probably get a drumming program or something like that

right now what i have in mind for recording is "sequel"

software for me is not an issue my friend has cubase. i could easily download any program if i need it

but i dont know what exactly to use as a recording interface

i tried connecting my guitar directly to my sound card but it sounds like shaito like on the faq says

i dont know if to buy the separate unit that i would use outside my computer or if i could buy hardware and install it into my computer which is no problem to me because i built my computer from scratch

my computer in my opinion is pretty fast
i have 3.0ghz chip
1gb of ram in dual channel
3 hard drives 1 is 80gbs for os mainly 2nd is storage and is like 160gb and the 3rd one is external is about 250gbs
soundcard is audigy2 zsgamer

i would post more information regarding the recording interfaces the ones im interested in and thinking about but right now im at work so i would post as soon as i can

so any suggestions for recording interface or software would be appreciated

EDIT: here is one im interested in

http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...t_code=50769018

seems a little expensive though i have the money for it but i would prefer spending on pedals or amplifier because i have a line 6 spider III amp

this one is cheaper but what's the difference between the two is it worth spending 300 dollars more on the first one?

this one is external im interested in the unit but i dont want to pay for software included and i dont know if i could get oen of those around here because i will have to order or go pretty far

Cubase System|4 :: Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH

Don't know much about this other than that the Steinberg product is supposed to be good in it's class - in which case wouldn't it be a good starting point to use the requirements for that and build beyond those minimums? Maybe even find some forums based around other users of the software - some of whom may have already done what you want to do?
In straight technical terms fire wire is likely to be the best of the group you mentioned.
