restart at winXP bootscreen

Hi!

I have this Windows XP machine, which suddently started to not boot, meaning - it boots into the windows xp boot screen and after a half a minute, restarts. Safe mode does the same - restarts when booting.

I had this kind of issue before and could fix it by running software for fixing bad sectros, but this time it's different because there are no bad sectors.

any suggestions on what the problem might be? thanks in advance!
 
i guess file system on system disk is FAT32?

it usually happens by the reason of turning pc not correctly or windows turned of computer not correctly, so some system files (as a rule - ntldr, ntuser.dat or other can be corrupted. sometimes chkdsk helps)

solution: convert partition table to NTFS and reinstall OS

There was a severe damage to the registry - I got reports of people having registry releated errors earlier getting more frequent by the day and resulting in the state described in the introducting post of this thread. I found a possible solution, but ultimately decided to play it safe and make a clean sweep; reinstalled XP.
 
i tried not only memtest but also 2 other tools from Hirens 8.3 CD. as I said, it was the registry. don't know how it got FUBAR, but it did.

the specs are something like:

Mobo: some Gigabyte mobo, can't remember the name
RAM: 1GB DDR2
VGA: onobard
HDD: Sata2 ~160GB
cpu: ~p4 3.2 GHz
 
just got word - the PC with a fresh Xp installation, again has the same restarting problems. WTF? Goddamnit!

Okay... sorry about that! It's just a new PC, a few months old. No problems up until now. Most probably it's some hardware problem - will check the compatibility of the individual HW components, will check for blown up conditioners aso. It's simply unable to boot into windows. Perhaps it's alergic to windows? :D

:doh: it was the RAM. Ran some more tests and lots and lots of problems started to pop up - wrong saving of numbers, invalid copying, aso.

put in a new stick and the system goes perfectly.

solved.

Exactly, thats how it is. If a computer start doing unwanted restarts then the first doubt goes on RAM and then PSU and then other parts.... Glad ur problem is solved.
 
hi friend, This is the general problem we usually get .This is due to many cause but i would like to say 2 in that ,
There may be any bad sectors( but as per the ur query u said u removed the bad sector - but u did not make sure wheather u had done Zero filling to each and every the sector in the HDD) ,if u havent dont this re- installing the xp os do the same.
2.Before that, it may be the simple cmos battery do a lot.Remove ur battery and place the same after a while , or place new battery !!. This i has to work fine as with many clients i have worked the same and got successed.
