built a system on raid o configuration, upgraded other components and freshly installed windows xp only to one drive. Bios details on the other hard drive correct but my computer folder properties shows the number of gig when it used to be on raid o with the other hard drive. Tried reformatting it but error says windows cannot format, tried to take it out but can't boot saying missing file and need to re-install it. left it there and bought another sata drive for storage, now the problem is the new hard drive gets recognized in the bios correctly but not on my computer folder nor in the administrative tools section of windows. also the hard drive that i installed windows on is on drive d while the c drive( the old drive) is for my storage. can anybody out there help me out.

woa, thats a load of information (without alot of punctuation!)

built a system on raid o configuration,

dont know alot about raid, but i will do my best :P

upgraded other components and freshly installed windows xp only to one drive.

ok, sounding good.

Bios details on the other hard drive correct but my computer folder properties shows the number of gig when it used to be on raid o with the other hard drive.

thats not making much sence to me, sorry.

Tried reformatting it but error says windows cannot format, tried to take it out but can't boot saying missing file and need to re-install it.

did you try to boot from windows or the install cd? changing partitions in windoze is fataily flawed!
left it there and bought another sata drive for storage,

your better off using the SATA drive as your boot, and using the old drives as mass storage for DVD rips etc (when you srat ripping dvds, it takes ALOT of space!)

now the problem is the new hard drive gets recognized in the bios correctly but not on my computer folder nor in the administrative tools section of windows.

If your using a SATA drive with windows, it is likely that you will have to install drivers, did your motherboard come with sata drivers?

also the hard drive that i installed windows on is on drive d while the c drive( the old drive) is for my storage. can anybody out there help me out.

The Drive letter is unimportant, and you cant change the drive letter beacuse a) you cant alter a active partition from windows (not the boot partition anyway) and b) its a bad idear, everyithing will be linked to d:\ so changing it to C:\ is just going to cause problems!

I would recomend you pull anything you want to keep of the hard discs you have,

and format each one.

reinstall windoze to the SATA drive (you might need a floppy disc with the drivers on it to do this)

Set up raid to be used as mass storage (as the SATA drive is much faster, use it as the boot partition [the one you install windoze onto])
