simple one for you - wireless internet

I want to be able to connect to the internet using the built in wireless wifi in my laptop, due to the kids trying to pull the wires out everytime i am on line! It has a 802.11b connection. Can i just buy the Belkin F5D7230UK4 54G WIRELESS ROUTER that is on offer at PC world or do i need to buy other bits? I have read a few bits of info on wireless and some say you need a modem as well. Would my laptop not use the built in one?
I am on freeserve dialup, not broadband. Does this make a difference?

If you want to be able to use your internet wireless, you'll need to have it set up like this:
broadband modem --connected via ethernet cable>wireless router---wireless radio link>laptop. If that is your system then you'll just need the router, if not then can you write a similar diagram like that to show how your network is set up.

Aswell, I would heavily recommend you buy your router and other network equipment online, its not as if they're components that fail a lot. I would recommend netgear wireless routers. You can get one for under £50, and any troubles with it you can post here as I have experience with 2 different netgear products.

thats a good one, so I'd recommend that. You can go with other brands if you wish its up to you.
 
Thanks for the reply. Sorry, but you need to presume i don't know anything (i am more of a grease and spanner man myself!) When you say broadband modem connected via ethernet cable, do you mean i can't do it with a dial up internet access through a BT phone line?
What i think i need (trying to follow your flow diagram) is :-

BT phone socket -> wireless router (using cable) -> connected to my laptop via the built in WiFi.

Is this possible? Like i say, i don't need to network any other computers, i just want to be able to use the internet without any wires.
