Well, I don't think my Thermaltake SilentBoost is going to be up to snuff for overclocking my 3700+. Since I'm cheap, I looked around for a new cooler under $40 including the fan, be it separate or included. I was pondering the Thermalright Ultra-90, but I wasn't too keen on the swiveling feature it had. From all the research I've done, the Ultra-90 and the Freezer are pretty much on par, but the Freezer is cheaper than the Ultra-90 in most cases. I found SVC had free USPS Priority shipping, so that made it a little cheaper than ordering off Newegg.

I know a few of you guys love this cooler, plus I've heard good stuff about it elsewhere. I remember when you couldn't get a high-performance cooler for $25 online, let alone in-town. Regardless, with the 60*C weather we're getting in Indiana right now, I definitely can see my current solution isn't going to cut it in 90*C summer temps with high humidity.

I think this will top off my little system boost.

Unfortunately, my Freezer 'packed' up just after the end of the warranty. :(
It still works but is really rattely. When I start the PC it grinds and then after a while the noise stops.

I have since changed to a really noisy alternative (Thermaltake Spark 7 bought for pennys on eBay) which does not seem to cool my 3Ghz Pressy to less than 42C (no OC what so ever). So when I get a few bob together I think I will invest in a new Freezer.

A few things that disappointed me with the Freezer were the overall finish of the product. Looks a bit rough... the copper plate is very rugged and the pipes finish does not look very good. Also it is huge! in comparison to normal 'block' type coolers. I was quite surprised how much space it took.... and the fan speed is constant at about 2000RPM.

Still best of luck and I hope it does the job. I would assume Freezer technology has improved since...
 
The Pro is the updated version, so hopefully any issues like that have been dealt with. A rough surface can be dealt with by some lapping (sanding the CPU block to a flat, smooth finish with progressively finer sandpaper---voids warranty, but I tend to do that to many products).
 
Got it in. While the weather has become colder, it's really not affected the temps that drastically. I got the Freezer installed today, and so far I've got it at around 10-12*C cooler. Once the thermal paste AC used sets in, I might get a degree or two lower. Right now, my CPU is at 2.42GHz with a 1.35V vCore and is only 38*C. Under load.:D
 
I love my Freezer in my desktop, it's a great cooler for the money, glad yours is working out there man, you've got a rather nice system :)

I'd love to perform a little upgrade on my laptop and put an X1600 in (as you can buy my model of laptop with X1600's) but I doubt it'd be available / easy, plus I don't want to void any warranty etc.

Same here. But what I have noticed was, that the idle temps only improved slightly but under pressure there was a massive improvement. So I was happy to see that when it mattered, the freezer did its thang... :cool:
I am really missing mine now. I am even censidering re-installing my faulty one :O , I cannot stand a loud PC....
 
The freezer series coolers are awsome, kept my pentium 4 cool, but still showed as 52 degrees coz i had faulty motherboard.

Having a better cooler will keep your cpu cooler obviously, and more stable, but it aint something 100% necessery, i got through the ho summer with my AMD overclocked to 2.8ghz with only a voltage bymp from 1.40 - 1.45v, well it took its tole and only was stable in summer with a voltage of 1.47v, and my temps were, 29degrees - 34 degrees idle, and 42-45 degrees load.
At stock clock temps were 29degrees idle, and 32 degrees load.
 
Yeah, but I like to stay under 50*C, which I should once this thing is topped out. I think I can drop the voltage a tad, but I'll wait until I've topped out. Judging by what I've seen for my stepping (CCBWE), 2.8GHz will be on the high-end. I've found my CPU to be very picky about a couple of DRAM timings that I have to keep very loose, despite that my memory can do much tighter timings. I can pass memtest with my Ballistix and very tight timings (2-2-2-5), but I really have to loosen up (2.5-5-5-8) or it will fail Prime almost instantly---and show system instability. The high-lighted timings are the RAS to CAS delay and RAS Precharge timings Right now, I'm at 2.5, usually around 40*C, but sometimes it pops up to 42. I think I can probably drop that by lowering the voltage since I still think it's the timings, but that can wait.
