Socket Types

as im reasearching AMD's Socket types it seems that the 939 series is best to my knowledge.. does anyone else concurr to that statement.

AM2 is the newer socket, and it is eventually going to phase out 939. AMD's new CPUs will use the new socket, and it supports DDR2 RAM.

Edit: confusion, my bad.

Go with AM2 CPU's and motherboards, that way you'll keep up to date and with an open upgradge path, it's not good to upgrade to dated technology if you can help it.

The main thing about AM2 is that it allows DDR2. At this point, this does not allow for a very considerable speed gain but when lower latencies become available you will be able to see some serious gains. Also, physically, the AM2 has 940 pins while the 939 has, you guessed it, 939.

i would say is the am2 cost the same or a little more get it becuase if its equal to the 939 now it will be better later but if u get a 939 it will be out dated and u could only get what is out now or mabe a new processor but the am2 will have many faster upgrades to it

after looking into the Duo 2 Core some more and asking the fine people of Hardware Forums. I did decide to go the Duo 2 Core way. at first i thought that because there was more products available from AMD it was the best way. Duo 2 Core is the way im going now.

you can see that in my other thread.
