I've ordered an Intel Core 2 Quad QX6700 and was wondering whether it has already grease on it... Does anyone know so when I go and get it, I ask for the requested item.
Thank you.
If it's a retail CPU then it'll have a Heatsink and Fan which will have a thermal pad attached to it already, you can always get rid of this and use your own stuff if you want.
If you plan on overclocking (or you want a quieter system) then new TIM (Thermal Interface Material) would be a good idea along with a new Heatsink and Fan, if you plan on leaving things as they are when the CPU arrives then the stock pad should be fine.
Ok, then I should be sure that the one I'm getting has the pad already, right? BTW I won't overclock as the warranty will be void... It was of course in my plans but voila...
