Simple steps to make your pc run a lil be faster.
This tweaks will disable some visual thing in xp like common task in folder, shadow under pointer, the background for each folder type.
To do this:
Start- right click on My Computer then properties- Advance tab- Performance-Settings-Visual Effects. Ok now select “Adjust for best performance” now select:
1. Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing,
2. Show windows content while dragging,
3. Use drop shadow for icon labels on the desktop Use visual styles on windows and buttons.
Note that I am not responsible for any damage to your computer.
If you want your pc faster then you want to disable some unneeded services.
To do so go to Start- run-type “services.msc” click ok
The following are services that you can disable safely ( you don’t need).
Alerter
Notifies users of administrative alerts. Not required under normal circumstances.
ClipBook
Used to store information (cut/paste) and share it with other computers.
Error Reporting Service
Calls home to Microsoft when application errors occurs. A waste of memory and resources.
Fast User Switching Compatibility
This let you switch from one user to another in you pc. Don’t disable it if you have more than one account in your pc.
Help and Support
If you use don’t disable it otherwise do it.
Messenger
Sends messages between clients and servers. Not needed under normal "home" conditions.
This has nothing to do with MSN Messenger. This service usually gives you a lot of pop-ups.
Net Login
Used for logging onto a Domain Controller.
NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing
Enables a user to access your computer using NetMeeting.
Network DDE
Unless you use remote ClipBook, Disable it.
Network DDE DSDM
Same as above.
Network Location Awareness (NLA)
Required for use with the Internet Connection Sharing Service (server only.)
Performance Logs and Alerts
Collects performance data on a schedule and sends the information to a log or triggers an alert.
Print Spooler
Disable it only if you don’t have a printer.
Remote Desktop Help Session Manager
Manages and controls Remote Assistance.
Remote Registry Service
This is one of those not needed services.
Removable Storage
Used for managing removable media. Disable this service if you do not have items like tape backup devices, etc.
Smart Card
Supports the use of a Smart Card for local or network computer authentication. If you do not have a "Smart Card," you do not need this service running.
Smart Card Helper
Supports the use of a Smart Card for local or network computer authentication. If you do not have a "Smart Card," you do not need this service running.
Task Scheduler
This service is used to schedule maintenance, MS Backup sessions or maybe even Auto Update. Some third party software may require this service to be active for automated functions, such as Virus Scanners, system maintenance tools, and Automatic patch/driver lookups.
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Service Legacy support for NetBios over TCP/IP. If your network does not use NetBios, disable this function.
Telephony
Controls telephony devices on the local computer. Don’t disable it if you are using Dial-up.
Telnet
Allows remote login to the local computer via the telnet function.
Terminal Services
Allows remote login to the local computer. This service is Required for Fast User Switching, Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance.
Uninterruptible Power Supply
Since most of us live where the energy is always on this service is not necessary.
Universal Plug and Play Device Host
Used in conjunction with SSDP Discovery Service, it detects and configures UPnP devices on your home network. Take note: UPnP is NOT related to PnP. UPnP is used for connectivity on networks via TCP/IP to devices, such as scanners or printers. Your sound card is PnP. Do NOT Disable Plug and Play service.
WebClient
For security reasons, I recommend for this service to be Disabled.
Windows Time
Automatically sets your clock by contacting a server on the Internet. Great idea if your network is always connected to the Internet, but otherwise, the Event Log fills up with "can not find server" messages.
Wireless Zero Configuration
Automatic configuration for wireless network devices. If you do not have any wireless network devices in use, Disable this service.
WMDM PMSP Service
Retrieves the serial number of any portable music player connected to your computer.
You also want to keep your pc updated.
Also disable start-up programs that you dont need. Start-run-type "msconfig" click ok- startup tab and then select any program that you dont want at startup

Start Menu Speed up
Start>run>type "regedit">HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Control Panel>Desktop change the value of MenuShowDelay from 400 to 0. Close the registry and reboot.
Shut Down Icon
Right click on your desktop-new-shorcut-type "shutdown.exe -s -t 3"-next then rename it how ever you want it and then finish. The number after the -t means the time in seconds it will take to shut off your pc.
Disk Defragmentation
This will defrag your hard drives. Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Defragmenter- select the hard drive you want to defrag then analyze and it will tell if you have to defrag or not.
Also if you don't like to be searching for stuff, use copernic. It is faster than google desktop tool bar and it use little mem usage to run.
