USB Broadband Wireless router

I'm a dullard!!

A while ago I bought a Netgear WGR614 Wireless Router, only to realise that the broadband input is for an RJ45 connector not USB which I have.

So it's effectively useless!!

Is there such an adapter to change the USB to ethernet?
Will I be better off getting a new modem which will give me an ethernet connection?

My aim is to fileshare two PC's and allow broadband access to both. Am I going about it the right way? With what I have, should I be able to fileshare by connecting one PC to Port 1, the other to Port 2 and setting up the network as described in the sticky thread on here?

Sorry if I seem a little dull on this, but I can do small jobs like replacing hard drives, sound cards etc, but when it comes to networking, I a bit green I'm afraid!!

Well, welcome to the forums and I hope you continue to reamain around after your question is answered. I have never seen a router with a USB connection on it, so I am afraind you are out of luck in that area. I am, however, surprised that there is not an ethernet connection on the router in addition to the USB connection. I guess that it is possible to have one with just USB but I haven't seen it. But, in the even that there is not ethernet port I would have to recommend a new modem. I have never seen a USB to ethernet adapter, but that doesn't mean they don't exist, after all I had never heard of a USB only modem until now. Irregardless, I recommend you look on your modem for an ethernet port, then go to your favorite computer parts shop and look for either a USB to ethernet adapter or a new modem.

It is USB out only. So a new modem should sort that bit out (far cheaper than a new router!!)

Will any ADSL modem work with my Virgin account?

Back to my Netgear router, should I be able to fileshare with what I have now using port 1 as my main PC and the wireless connection as the other?
