USB Lap link cable help

Hello all,
I recently paid 30$ and bought a usb 2.0 laplink cable or usb bridge cable to connect my laptop to my desktop. Both my systems have fully functioning USB2.0 ports. I read the user manual and proceeded according to it and used their setup file and then plugged in the usb on my laptop. But the problem was that the laptop was supposed to detect it as a "USB Super Link Adaptor" but it is detecting it as a "USB Mass Storage device" and "OTi Thunderbird USB device". The former falls under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and the latter under "DVD/CD-ROM drives" in the device manager. And so it doesnot server the purpose of transferring data. It is the same case in the desktop as well. I looked for updated versions of the programs but it again gives the same error.
I tried to install the Virtual Network Adaptor manually using add new hardware. but when i did so, it installed the driver and said the the hardware might not work "code 10" error.

I need to transfer around 30gigs of data from my desktop to laptop within a few days. So people, kindly help me out with this.

it would have being much much easier (& probably cheaper) to add a NIC to you desktop system (if there isn't one already built in) but back to your problem, are there any yellow exclamation marks over any devices in device manager (USB devices) on both systems, if there are, remove the device in question and reboot, does that fix it ?

Thanks for your solution but i'm afraid it did not help.
I have installed the "USB virtual network adaptor" driver but windows is not finding any hardware suitable for this driver. The above driver is supposed to be for the usb link cable, but my comp has automatically installed USB mass storage device and OTi Thunderbird CD ROM drivers for this cable.
I'll try to attach a screenshot of device manager. and the readme file

ok, remove the drivers for all devices that are not there (installed by you or Laplink) then right click on the Action (top of device manager) > Scan for hardware changes, does it work ?
