Use both wired ethernet and wireless separately

Basically, I want to use my normal, wired ethernet connection for pretty much every connection on my computer. I then want to use wireless (most likely through a USB stick connection), but make only Firefox and select other programs use the wireless connection.

First off, is this possible? I know it's possible to bridge connections, but I want to keep them separate and control what goes through which. If it is possible, are there any guides to follow? Unfortunately, the question isn't very Google friendly.

I believe that this is possible, I'm not too sure *why* you would want to do this (unless your neighbor is 'letting' you use there wireless).... i think the best way to do it would be by running a local proxy server

Thanks, this seems a lot more specific than what I was looking for on Google. If I find any good guides, I'll post them here for future reference, and if anyone else finds or knows of any good ones post them here too.

And the reason is that, at my work, our connections are piped to our corporate headquarters half a country away at blazing speeds of up to 5 k/s, which is fine for specific things on our company intranet, but when I need to use the internet to download various things for work, it gets very time consuming. And where I work, there is free wireless internet provided by the city, which I've heard connects at pretty decent speeds. And while it's probably not the most secure, I won't be using it for any private things.

I was about to say its not really your problem, the longer it takes you to do something the more they have to pay you to do it (in Theory :P).

But as its for personal use (?) you want it to be as fast as possible :)

There are plenty guides for making hacked up aerials for better wifi reception that can be found in google (and most use easy to get materials like food cans or pringles tube!)
