vid card and cpu matching

I got an amd athlon 939 3500 cpu and I just needed help figuring out which video card I should buy which would not have it's abilities wasted. I will NOT be overclocking anything. It will be used mainly for gaming and I was hoping if someone could tell me which nVidia card would be best, that's about the only thing I've established regarding the graphics card. I'm guessing I'm gonna be getting a 6800, but i dont know wether it's gonna be GT or w/e, and I have no clue which manufacturer is best for what I'm looking for. I have not yet decided on which MOBO to buy neither (which I am hoping not to spend too much money on), so if anyone can help me out with any of this, I truly am appreciative.

how much was you intending to spend on the graphics card?
Do you know if you are going to get an AGP or PCIe card, as you should know this before you get the mobo, as a lot of the newer ones do not support agp.
But without a budget its hard to give you a good recommendation for a card
 
yeah, I am planning to spend decent dough on the graphics card, I just dont want to waste potential because of my cpu though. I'm planning to buy the best card for an amd athlon 3500 can work with. basically, i'm just looking for the best bang for my buck, although i wish not to overclock anything. I am planning to do this pcie, but I could settle for agp if pcie is expensive or pointless or w/e. nVidia is what I want to get, but I have no clue wether i should go with fuzion or evga or whoever else makes em. thanks for help, btw
 
okay, still no figure??

nividia 7800 gt, is a really good card, i have just bought one for my new system, and it is only marginaly slower than its bigger 7800GTX brother, and it is considerably cheaper than the GTX, my XFX 7800 GT Etreme Edition was £240 from overclockers.co.uk, and that came with Call Of Duty 2 in the box.

But is that to much for you to spend, as you still havent given a figure, which makes it very hard to recommend a card. If you really are considering to but a 6800 ultra, then maybe you should consider an x850xt, as these are better.
 
well, if you need a figure, i was thinking around $350 (US) at max, but I can squeeze more. I can easily go for a 7800, the only thing is that I do not want to get it if I can not use everything about it that I am paying for. I'm not too up there on what video card is good for what (i dont know the difference between 7800gt and 7800gtx except gtx is bigger). I dont want to waste my money on something my cpu will slow down. also, i need manufacturer tips, there are just so many choices out there, and if I'm spending $300+ I want to be sure I am making the right decision. That's why I am wondering if a 6800 is the way to go, but I have aboslutely no clue which 6800 is the best. thanks gain
 
if you can afford the 7800 gt get it, its a better card,

here are some links with benchmarks and reveiws comparing the 6800, 6800 ultra, 7800 gt, 7800 gtx. Have a read of them they confirm that it is better to get the 7800 over the ultra.Apart from a new chipset the 7800 gt has 20 pixel pipelines compared to the 6800s 16.Your cpu is good, but for games you really will notice the difference between the 6800 and the 7800.
