Weird splash screen.

Hello, everyone.

A friend of mine has a problem in that when she powers on her PC her XP Home Edition splash screen appears in green bands of varying shades as opposed to the normal predominently blue full screen.

However, when she gets fully into Windows to surf the Net, all is fine and everything displays normal.

I had thought her monitor or video card might be on the blink, however, both are just 2 years old so I wonder if these may be the cause.

I have suggested to her that a system restore to an earlier date might fix the problem, or indeed, to reload XP from the CD and do a 'repair/reinstall' to fix things.

Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

Cheers,

David.

Has this problem always occured?
Is their another user who could have changed the splash screen?

I know that TuneUp Utilities (TuneUp Software International - Home Page) allow you to change the splash screen. Tell her to download this on a 30-day trial, inside TuneUp you can reset all themes etc. to default.

This problem has, apparently, only occured over the last three weeks. She is the only user and has not changed the splash screen. Thanks, I'll pass on the link to her - it sounds useful.

Does the splash screen look like a graphical error? Or does it look as though it has been changed/edited?
Becuase it could be the graphics card playing up.
Yeah, try TuneUp, its a great program and they give you a full version for a 30-day trial.

the first thing to try is a known working monitor (and try that monitor on another system, then move onto the grfx

I suppose it could even be the power supply.
But yes, try another monitor if you haven't already.
