:(:x: :( :swear: Hopefully that helped to illustrate my experience. Well anyway so yesterday went from being extreamly good when I found out the UPS truck dust drove up with all my friends beautiful components. To not so good when I found out his case design totally sucked and there was nothing tooless about it. I had to screw everything thing in by hand and the whole upper drive rails were slightly warped so I coudln't get the optical drive in place without some major brute force. Then the massive video card wouldn't fit in because the huge metal bracket protruded too much and the stupid plastic clips were in the way. So I unscrewed the lot and finally got it in. I set everything else up and when I finally turned it on I got lights, a ton of fan noise (the video card is the loudest beast I've ever heard) and no picture at all. So the only way I could turn it off was by shutting off the psu. I fiddled around and tried it again and the instructions were no existent for most everything useful so I didn't know how to set up the m/b switch, the HD Led, etc. All I could do is wing it. I really wish they'd make a universal standard for those little jumpers. I looked at the PCIe X800GTO card and it was in properly but there was this little 4-pin connection that was left unfilled. I Just knew that had to be the answer but I couldn't find anything to plug it into. Then I just concluded it wasn't necessary for a POST and if it had needed external power there would have been a 4 pin molex connection empty intead of a tiny jumper style thing.
Anyway I still couldn't get it to post. Everything else seemed to have power so there was no beeping but I was pretty clueless about what to do. So I kept charging on anyway. Then after switching off the psu again. And then turing it back on I got no indication that I was getting power. And I guess I wasn't as the power button did nothing. That really sent me over the edge but I kept at it. Though it seemed like a good idea at the time it turned out to be fatal when I decided to take apart my rig to test components. I took my mobo and put it in his case, tried out his ram in my mobo. Went to power it up and nothing. I just assumed that I didn't have the switches configured properly but nothing really seemed to work. I swaped psu, changed his mobo into my case. Tried another psu. I got a bit of light now and then with different combos and powered up on a couple occasions but I could only post when I used my still intact computer with the monitor to make sure it wasn't defective.
And now where I'm at now is for some reason I can no longer get anything to power up. I don't understand what's going on. I reassemble my rig like I had it more or less and it powers up. Then I switch off the psu and try it again. Nothing. Okay did I totally f it up or what?
Here are my thoughts on what could be wrong though alot of them don't explain why I'm not getting at least a little sign of power.
-my jumpers aren't configured properly
-all my psu's are now dead
-I killed my mobo, most likely I was too rough as I installed them in a hury and they were scraping around on the standoffs when I installed them sometimes. Though they didn't look damaged.
-my power cables are shot
-something's up with the ram? not that that would make any sense but whatever.
-my monitor doesn't like my video card.
-the video card really does need that little connection
-it didn't screw in the vga and dvi connectors, tidy my cables, mount my psu, or close my case so the combined total was just enough to turn the tides against me. Yeah, right...
-By the way there was no static discharge so that's out:)
Yeah that's all I can think of. Needless to say I'm totally steamed now. I could have basically destroyed my friends computer AND mine. Lets see that's about oh $2500 worth of components down the drain. Okay well I know not everything can be dead but there's obviously something screwed up. I'm going to frig around with a bit more, try my monitor, swap ram. close it all up, and see what happens. If you guys don't know what's going on. And I can't get it to work. I'll probably send it to my dads school. Which he'll be very unhappy about. And the computer class will have a hay day tinkering around with a bunch of dead components trying to get it to post. I know I can RMA my friends parts but it would be a royal pain and I'd be very embarresed saying "Sorry I goofed, mind if I return everything and try again?"

My specs are in My Computer on the left of course.
Sorry to write a book about it but I just had to get it all out. Hope you can spot something I didn't.
