So i was looking for a graphics card as many of you might kno, i bought this crappy one from best buy, didnt work, brought it back. now today i was looking at the battlefield 2 game and i took a quick look at the specs, it says you need at least a Geforce FX5700 128MB graphics card, ok, but since im still working with my crappy integrated one i went onto newegg went to video cards and looked for an AGP 4X/8X - 128MB DDR - 128-bit - Geforce FX5700 GPU Graphics card... There it was heaven for $69 ($100 at tiger direct), look at these specs(below). do you think itll be good enough for madden 06, sim2, battlefield 2, and other high end games? with no lag?. and another thing it says it doesnt have a tv-tuner yet it tells you you can watch and record live tv and it also has a plug for the cable, if you want more pics check out tiger direct (below). Also What is This VIVO stuff?

What do you think? I kno its worth it but can it handle those games? :good:
 
In your price range no card is going to tear through BF2 I'm afraid. The Sims2 won't be any big deal but for highend games a $70 card can't really push out the frames like it used to. If it recommends at least that card then it will run poorly on that card unless you tone things down a lot. Any card at the bottom of the supported list is not going to perform well sadly. The 9600Pro is more or less the best card you can get in this price range. The specs may look similar but the 9600Pro will out perform the 5700 (non Ultra) in most tests, plus the 5xxx series has been know to be somewhat buggy as well. If I were you I'd save up my money and order a $150 card but if you really want to buy one know the 9600 Pro still holds it's ground, even in games like HL2. Good luck.
 
Thanks!!! 1 last question, when looking for a graphics card what specs are you looking for. i mean like, for example: more memory (like 512mb) = better graphics what determines how well the games will look?
 
Performance wise, you'll want nothing less than a Radeon 9800 or if you're stuck for money a 9600 or 9700.
Faster and more advanced GPUs render textures better, however mostly its not about how well it looks but how well it performs at a certain quality setting.
 
Yep, I'll go with Addis. If you can spare some $130, get a 9800pro. If you simply can't, then get a 9600xt. I've seen those 9600 in action and trust me, for your price range they rock. It can play FarCry fairly well with the settings in high!!! And you know FarCry is no puny game :cool: .
 
More memory is better but don't be fooled by the marketing ploy of cappy cards with lots of memory. I've seen Radeon 9200's with 256MB's or memory and belive me, altough that would have been cool 2 or 3 years ago that much memory is useless if the GPU core can't render the visuals fast enough in the first place, it will get bogged down you'll be waiting for the lag to clear. For decent cards like anything in the Radeon 9600-X800 and the GeForce 5900 XT/Ultra-7800GTX range different models may sport more memory and in that case go for it, but just make sure the card itself is powerful enough to warrent the memory first.
 
Hey will i have any problems playing stuff like doom 3 and battlefeld 2 with a 6600gt or a radeon x800pro?
 
No, assuming you have a gig or ram or so and a reccent processor you should be fine, you can probably crank Doom 3 up to high with the gig of ram, I managed it with 512 but I have a 6800 (no big difference). The X800 Pro is an even better card but as you know it won't play Doom 3 as well, all that nVidia optimization stuff interferes:X: BF2 should look and play great though.
 
Doom 3 was optimized to play on nVidia's architechture, so it's a little forign to ATI cards, so nVidia gets a boost, just like HL2 plays better on ATI cards. The companies just made a deal basically.
 
Doesn't mean that X800 won't play HL2. And you won't necessarily need a GB, 512 will do, of course more is always nicer.
 
yea, when i build my amd64 rig, i am going to settle for 512mb ram, but i just rememberd, i am going to need a new power supply, becouse for pci express you need a new power supply with a pci express power connector on it, i just found out that today, god were have i bieng the last 5 months :P
 
Oh the X800 will run HL2 like a dream, though you do need a cpu to back it up, intensive game right there. 512Mb's will be okay but you'll definately notice the difference by going with the gig like I said.
 
well an AMD-64 3500+ and 512MB DDR SDRAM will do the job wont it, if necessery, when i build the AMD-64 system i will add the whole 1GB ram to it, then i have an extra 512mb :P, ooo ooo, i really want 4gb ram :P

hey after al this time, on my current system i have just enabled dual channel mode :P, i never knew you had to have both sticks of ram in both blue or black slots, now on bios screen it says dual channel enabled, will i notice any difference in games ?
