To be honest i've never watched any but i assume they are quite good judgng from the amount of ppl hu have posted here :good:
Well, it has started to take off in recent years. I don't know what's available in the UK, but I think the releases over there are a few months behind the US's releases. It's even worse if you're in Australia. It's growing like mad, but it's still not always on the same acceptance level as, say, the Simpsons or Family Guy. It's getting there, but there's many people that think anything animated is for kids...and it ain't. There's a broad range of categories and age levels, and equating animation as a kids-only domain can be a big mistake. If you checked out the December Anime Roundup, you'll notice Ikki Tousen is in there, and while it's entertaining, it's basically a few steps shy of ani-pr0n. Not for kids (if you couldn't tell by the DVD's cover).
And hentai is the name used for anime porn. I don't know what's all available to you, but check out the movie Jin-Roh (The Wolf Brigade). It's in an alternate post WWII Japan and just well done in general. If you want something that you need to think over to get, check out Neon Genesis Evangelion or RahXephon.
I just can't take any of it seriously, its cartoon.. but then thats just me not being open minded i suppose
Yes, well from what I've run across, quality on the animation is also another thing about them that suck...but then again, I highly doubt having the best animation is the main priority here. If you don't take animation seriously, it may be because you only see the big eyes and fanservice stuff. Check out Jin-Roh. Still animated, but it's a movie and the animation is very realistic. It's set in a post-WWII alternate Japan and is about a soldier in a wetworks operation against some terroists and out of control citizens. The other one that would be good (mostly because it makes fun of it's own genre) is Martian Successor Nadesico. Actually, even if you've only seen stuff like Power Rangers, you should be able to get most of the jokes and gags.
Power rangers were soo dorky. They'd do the shouting and stuff and run really geeky with one arm stretched out. And when they used to hit the bad guy he'd always have sparks flying. You'd think it would be quicker to shoot them instead of trying to kung-fu their ass to death.
I loove i how the power rangers would exploid with a shower of sparks when they got hit, then they would get back up
