which amd cpu?

im gonna get a new processor, and needed to know if any of the ones i was considering have an unlocked multiplyer, and which, if any are the best for overclocking, i cant do the reseacrh myself at the moment, as my motherboard died last week, and im at college at the moment.

so i would like to know, out of the list below, which is the best cpu for overclocking, and how could that be achived.

The processer will be paired with a new abit fatality motherboard.

The processers i am considering are

AMD 64 3500+ (venice core 90nm)

AMD 64 3700+ (san diego core 90nm)

AMD 64 3800+ (Venice 90nm)

AMD 64 4000+ (San Diego 90nm)

its going to be a present for xmas, and i just want ot choose the one that offers the best overclocing potential.
 
Well at first i was going to say the 4000+ but if you want the best overclocking potential, i'd pick either the 3500+ or the 3700+, they overclock very well indeed :cool:
As far as i know, none of them have unlocked multipliers, many many people have had hopes of unlocked multipliers over the years, but realised it's a lost cause and have found equally as good ways to overclock. Paired with a good HSF, good motherboard and good RAM, i don't see why a few FSB and possibly some Voltage increases won't get you a good overclock :good:

how much do you think you will be able to oc them, with the stock hs and fan?
 
Overclocking isn't a set thing, some people get a massive overclock out of a chip and others don't, there's a lot of luck involved.
With a stock HSF it's really hard to tell, we could say 500MHz increase but you may only get 300MHz, or you may be lucky and get 700MHz. You may overclock and not see a significant rise in temperatures, then again you may overclock it and realise you need a new HSF if you want to continue to run it that way.
Voltage increases will up the temperature though, so stock HSF won't cut it for long.
