Hello,
I am using INTEL 3.4 HT with 2MB cache. I want to ask that if i can buy INTEL 3.4 DUAL CORE PROCESSOR, then can i got any benefit regarding to the speed.
So can i switch to DUAL CORE 3.4 from INTEL 3.4 HT???
hello my answer is: ONLY IF YOUR CPU IS LETTING YOU DOWN
check your taskman /performance tab, if it reaches 100% for long periods (unlikely for intel HT) then thats where your cpu has reached its max, as you currently have HT then upgrading to dual core (without HT) will allow an equilivency of
aprox 25 - 30%***increase. so i wouldnt spend too much if it doesnt reach full load that oftern.
if you're sure your mobo fully supports it then it depends on your budget if your willing to accept the extra price.
personally i wouldnt (and haven't) waste my money for the extra speed, i dont know if you've checked with your motherboard to see if it works
PROPERLY with dual-core processors but you already have HT which increases the base speed by upto 33%
according to online sorces dual-core offers speeds upto a 80% increase (with none HT),
***only possible if your mobo can accept the cpu AND has compatibility to work with the second core (some mobos accept the cpu, but cannot work with dual core so disables it) - ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR MANUFACTURE IF YOUR MOBO
FULLY SUPPORTS DUAL CORE
you're a game fan so 3.4MHz (dual-core or ht) is very good which wont act much of a bottleneck for your gpu, it is also good for dreamweaver so I doubt it is worth the swap
if you've been offered an upgrade by your manufacture then I would deffenetly haggle, ask for the upgrade to be cheaper, the only reason they would ask is for the cash, for the extra profit he's charging you he would deffenetly lower the price for you only if you accept, it would improve the speed slightly (say 25% overall increase), but i wouldnt bother if its going to cost more than £50 to upgrade.
tip: check your ram timings too, slower ram can cause your whole system to slow down (regardless to the cpu speeds)
