Win XP PRO wont start ! Need Help pls

This problem is happening to a friend of mine. About a week ago when he switched on his PC this note came up after the welcome screen " Windows needs to be reactivated in 5days due to hardware changes, Do you want to activate Windows now ?" He clicks yes to activate it and it says that Windows is already activated! and the desktop comes up and everythings works fine. But this will come up every time he swithches on the pc. But as long as everything was working he didnt care much.

Today (which was the last day of chance to activate Win) this thing came up again and it said " This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on " He clicks ok to activate it and the same .. " Windows is already activated . Click ok to Exit" But now it does not log in anymore! It displays the welcome screen with the USER NAME / Administrator and the only option to choose is to turn off computer.

It logs in fine in Safe Mode, I also tried to use system restore to put the system at an earlier time but it didnt help.

This is a P4 2.8GHz with 512MB running Win XP PRo SP2 + all other updates. Its been running for about a year since last formated.

Im suspecting that its some kind of Virus attack ? Anyone has an idea?
 
I have an idea, call bil gates.....number at the back side of the CD...LOL..

Try reinstalling windows or owerwrite if possible.
You can call helpdesk for this as well, which I did when I had no internet connection.
 
You aren't left with many options:

1) Call Microsoft and find out what the :swear: is going on

2) Reinstall Windows

3) Crack the activation code - AS LONG AS YOU OWN THE SOFTWARE!!!
 
Is it possible to overwrite a previous installation ? I can be able to get an activation crack but will it run in safe mode ?
 
If you completely re-install Windows, then you could use it again - untill the activation time limit runs out again :rolleyes: . This is obviously not the best solution, so I suggest you contact Microsoft to sort it out.

One way around this would be to create two partitions on your hard drive. The first partition (c:\) would have Windows installed, and the second partition (d:\) would have your personal files. With this setup, you won't loose your personal files everytime you reinstall Windows.
