Wireless Network keeps dying... why??

Greetings.

I have a PC that connects to the Internet via my PCI wireless card to our router inside the house (maybe 25ft or so away, same level). My card is rated for 50 ft. range. I keep losing connection, randomly, but the annoying thing is that there is only one thing I can do to restore the connection. I go through all the methods I've found from digging around the web, like disabling/re-enabling the card, repairing the connection, manually entering an ip, nothing works except for this:

One solution I found said to open services.msc, stop the DHCP client, reboot, then type "netsh int ip reset log.txt". Doing this will restore my connection, for another hour or two until I have to repeat this process. And I've found that I don't need that second netsh step.

First off, why does my network keep losing connection, and second why must I go through that whole process to get a real IP, not the 169.xxx... etc.?

Try to set the IP settings manually. Enter the following data:

ip address: 192.168.1.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS server: 192.168.1.1

Hmmm... :doh:

Well that worked. However I changed during one of the times it was working. The weird thing is that I've manually enter all that same info several times before to no avail, the only difference being I never left the last line blank (the alternate dns). I put 192.168.1.1 for both. I guess that was the problem. Thanks.

True enough, it should. But it doesn't for some reason. I guess the connection wavers a lot so it has to continually reassign one.

The funny thing is that when I manually entered my ip, it works sometimes. But still, maybe once a day, it just stops working. The internet that is. I will still be downloading things from other sources like bittorrent, but I cannot browse to any site until I reboot (even if I close and restart firefox repeatedly). Occasionally it will work if I switch to internet explorer when that happens, but I would much rather go through the hassle of restarting :)

hmm well isn't it true that the only time there would be a problem with the router reassigning new IP's is if you had specified too few maximum IP addresses? If it assigns an IP address and it doesn't expire for a while and then it has to assign a new one to u, then eventually u'd run out of spots if your maximum is only like 5 or something ... err I think I might be understanding this right?? So anyway, that's not the problem by any chance is it??

Lol I'm thinking maybe you should just setup your router and network from scratch?
