I would suggest a System Restore might be a good idea. It seems to fix some things but not others. I believe the Wireless Zero service should have been automatically restarted when your software was uninstalled, you shouldn't have had to manually try to restart it.

If you're recycling the laptop it's best to remove the HDD you used incase any personal data can be recovered by the next user. I think I have guided someone through resetting their password on this forum before, I never thought for one minute it might be their computer :D How stupid of me!

I found that memmaker wasn't the most effective method, and some of the stuff I had to do by hand. But I agree with you about liking DOS, there's much less to go wrong! And if it crashed, Ctrl-Alt-Delete just rebooted it!

The easiest thing to try it a different mouse... Although I realise not everyone has a spare mouse lying around. If you can be bothered, you could try a Linux Live CD and see if it does it whilst that is running. It would tell you whether it's the mouse, or whether it's something in Windows XP.
