Help me with choosing between these 2 sets of speakers

By the way I figured out that the polk audio set is really a home theater thing... I need speakers for computer, actually. So scratch the polk. Anyway ... are *computer* 5.1 speakers mountable on walls or something? Particularly the satellite or rear ones, whatever you call them? I've never...

What does "Comm." mean, the title of...

    Advice on buying new monitor

Hey, if you want 4:3 aspect ratio, then I recommend a monitor with 1600x1200 resolution. You are talking about LCD monitors, right? Those are expensive, though, it seems. It might be hard to find one under 350. They're also sort of rare. The other good option would be a 1400x1050 resolution...

Are there any problems with getting "generic" RAM?

Hey, after a bit more digging I found this guide which talks about high and low density RAM. It says that much of the generic ram is high-density ram, which is designed "for used in slower server chipset/segment (Registered) which are not designed for PC chipset/segment (Unbuffered)", and that...

Are there any problems with getting "generic" RAM?

Ah. Okay well I'm not doing any overclocking... I just want to plow a bunch of memory into my old-ish comp so that i can play BF1942 w/o lag and w/o closing other apps. I'm definitely going for 2 sticks at once, as I have 2 dual-channel slots open. Getting 2 x 1GB (in addition to my single 512...

Are there any problems with getting "generic" RAM?

Someone gave me a link to this RAM: http://search.pricewatch.com/system_memory/ddr_pc3200_1gb-0.htm Take, for example, the very first one, for $13.23. That's super cheap! So my question is, is it worth it? Will this ram be worse than a name-brand stick of ram, like from kingston? Will this...

    Is the LCD market doomed???

Hm, I just remembered this thread since I recently got a new monitor. You know what else bugs me endlessly about LCD's? The fact that even fully reputable companies like Samsung and every other one on the market, even after all these years since LCD's first came to mass market... STILL CANNOT...

some noob question(s) about burning CD

Great, thanks RH. Worked like a charm, was done in like 3 minutes. Heh, Ghostman, maybe I can see why you dislike Nero, but I hardly ever burn things anyway, so I don't really want to bother. This Nero thing that came bundled with my drive seems to get me from point A to B in my burning needs...

    Computer-esque books to lure boys

lol, boys don't enjoy reading as much as girls? Haha, I didn't know this. And it says in the article that the "culture is such that it's still okay for boys not to enjoy reading" ... weird. Is this a British phenomenon? Is that British culture they're analyzing in that statement there? I mean I...

some noob question(s) about burning CD

I have a .iso file. So, what do I do with it to make it work? I burn it to a CD, correct? I'm using Nero Express. So do I just select the data CD option and then add the .iso file? Like in the screenshot? And is that all?

    Limited Access To Internet

Hm. Is your router reasonably old? Perhaps your new laptop uses a newer standard of wireless transmission that is not built into your router. You could most likely configure the laptop to use an older standard that would work. Only thing I can think of atm. Post what it says about the wireless...

    Advice

wait, do you have dial-up or broadband? Also, do you connect to the modem wirelessly? Any wireless connections in your house at all? And also spybot wouldn't really protect against hacking, or not necessarily, it's mostly for adware.
