Okay, for one don't do the modding stuff, 6 months is about the best you can hope for and as always, no guarentee. The 6800GT is a more powerful card as it has 16 pipelines to the X800Pro's 12. Yeah 1000MHz is about right for the mem clock.
Just save up tad more and get the tried and true X800XT. If your dad'll pay 75quid you can certianly afford it.

Price wise the 6800GT is a better deal but the X800XT beat the 6800Ultra, let alone the GT in just about every test by a fair bit. The difference isn't that big but you migh as well get the best card within your budget. If 200 pounds is your max budget than the GT is the best choice as it's a very nice card. You siimply can't find a X800XT for 200quid to my knowledge:(

proberbly could on ebay, but thats ebay, proberbly will not get the item i pay for, i think if i get up to about £120, my dad might pay the rest untill i make it all up, as i am planning on selling my 9600 and 256mb fx 5200 aswell, but before that, i need to get a new card :D, i will just go bk to 32mb :s intergrated graphics in my old computer :s thought it was 4, so i am going for the x800xt, i like ati better than nvidia aswell.

what about the ati radeon x800xl?

that only need a little overclock to be like the x800xt dont it?, so it will last as long as it was meant to?

The X800XL's generally don't overclock well but Histech (HIS) makes one with a beefed up cooler so you won't go wrong there. But aren't you still going to be with AGP 8X? Scratch HIS, may be a challenge to get an 8x 800XL.
Overclocked the XL would be about as good as a XT yes so the value is awesome. So long as temps are good there's no real harm to the card. If you find an XL compliant with your mobo go for it dude, it's a sweet card.

The Xl will be almost as good as the XT at stock, but if you overclock the XT will have marginal increase in performance!

Yeah you can but id suggest a 'Burn-In" or something, run 3D Mark or something like that for a few hours before you start overclocking!

Nice card dude, glad you found a 256MB version out there, will help you out. The heatsink looks pretty decent on that beast so you should get a respectable oc out ot it, very compairable to an XT I would say.

i just hope i will be happy with it for 3 years, becouse i dont want to upgrade whilst i am at college.

well i dont want to upgrade untill i get a decent job, becouse then i will save as much money as i possibly can for a computer, and build a monster.

as long as the x800xl will play games running the unreal engine 3, then thats ok for me.

whats xl stand for? extra large?

Well I don't know if it will be doing too great for 3 years but then agin even a GTX would look pretty cheesy in that time. I guess if you can make it with your 9600 now you can do the same with your XL in 3 years.
XL, good question, no idea, I don't know what any of that LE, GT, XT stuff means, best guess...nothing.
