Christmas upgrade flying around the corner..

Yeah its a decent solution. Gigabyte is a good company too.

That's not an AMD Athlon 64-Bit 3000+. That's an Opteron (dual core as well), totally different CPU! (although made by the same company...) And so maybe that chip is a better overclocker, it also depends on the individual core you get as well, just because one person got 2.9GHz out of something doesn't mean the next person will...

Hmm interesting but from the posts in that forum then I think it's a certain week that was good for overclocking, honestly I dont think you'll get many people with speeds like that, like I said, some cores can do it whereas other cores (exact same CPU etc) just can't, willhub go with the 3500+ if you can...

The only differance between the two proccessors is a higher multiplier...The 3000+ overclocks very well...

Yeah but still with an overclock like that th CPU won't last long, seriously, I'd give it a few weeks at max.

obviously the 3500+ will overclock better, no way on earth will i get a crummy little 3000+, at stock they are not even as good as my current processor.

Well I wouldn't call a 3000+ crummy but yeah a 3200+ or 3500+ might be nice just in case you want to drop back on the speeds now and then when you go awhile without gaming. And concidering the 3200+ costs almost the same I wouldn't hesitate to get one of those instead, 200MHz for peanuts more.

3200+ dont cost almost the same :s, there about £40 cheaper in stores, are they the same as a 3500+

In the US anyway their about $7 more expensive than a 3000+ but they run at 2.0Ghz instead of 1.8 so the deal is pretty awesome. Maybe the pricecuts haven't affected Europe as much yet. The only difference between the 3000, 3200, 3500, and 3800 are clock speeds so I guess it's all about the best you can afford.

anyway i am getitng a 3500+, but i aint sure on the motherboard still, it has to be AGP, good for overclockign and stuff like that, and also have IDE storage as both of my hard drives are IDE.

yea i was thinking about that, but does it have good sounds support, like connectors for centre/subwoofer front left/front right back right/back left speackers, as i need my surround sound to work and i dont want to buy a sounds card.

OH well, the upgrade has gone down the pan, with a devent motherboard it will come to about £240, so i am stuck with this crap faulty motherboard and slow pentium 4 processor.

Sorry about that man, I know how it is. I get a ton of ideas in my mind and it takes me forever to realize there's no way on earth it'll happen.
